Harriet Ware Hall, Milton Academy
Harriet Ware Hall postcard

Ware Hall was named in honor of Harriet Ware, a Milton Academy patron and trustee from 1879-1912.  During the Civil War Harriet Ware and her brother Charles collected slave songs while conducting a school for freedmen in South Carolina. Their work, Slave Songs of the United States, the first collection of American folk music, was published in 1867.
